PawCom Demonstration Kit Installation Instructions ================================================== 1. To use the PawCom MS Access sample application you must have Microsoft Access installed (it should be the same version as the PawCom Demo). You also need Peachtree Accounting for Windows or Peachtree Complete Accounting for Windows V7 or later installed, and the Peachtree sample company BCS available. To verify that the BCS data is present, look in the directory in which the Peachtree software is installed and see if there is a subdirectory named BCS. If there is, you have BCS data; if not, you need to reinstall the Peachtree software and make sure to select installation of the sample company data. (The sample company is named "Bellwether Garden Supply", but the folder it is in is named BCS.) NOTE 1: Peachtree Premium 2004 (not the Accountants' Edition) does not include the Bellwether Garden Supply data. If you need the Bellwether Garden Supply data for that or any other version, please contact us. NOTE 2: PawCom does not work with Peachtree 2000. 2. If you have not already downloaded the PawCom demonstration kit from the Multiware web site (http://www.multiwareinc.com/PawCom.htm), do so now. When you download the demonstration kit, the file PawCom97D.exe (for Access 97) or PawCom2kD.exe (for Access 2000) is placed on your system, depending on which version you downloaded, usually on the Desktop unless you specify otherwise. 3. Run the downloaded file to start the PawCom demonstration kit installation process. Follow the installation instructions to install the PawCom demonstration kit on your system. (We suggest you install the kit in the default location if possible.) 4. Select Start on the taskbar, then Programs. Locate and select the PawCom group folder, then select the PawCom icon. This will start PawCom. 5. When PawCom is started for the first time you will see the Attach Tables form. The directory location should be set to the path c:\pawcom250. If you installed PawCom in the default location, this is the correct path. If you installed PawCom in some other location, you need to change the path to be that location. After you are sure the path is correct, click the Attach All Tables button. You should see information about the tables being attached at the bottom of the screen. After all tables are attached, PawCom will complete the startup process, which should take you to a teal colored screen and the PawCom information form should pop up. If you don't want to see this form again when you start up, check the box. In any case, click Close to proceed. 6. At this point, you should have a teal colored screen with a grey menu bar. From the menu bar select "File" and then "Open Company...". Notice that the BCS company is already selected (at the path c:\peachw). If the BCS data is at some other location on your system, you will need to change the path as follows: Click the Browse button. Navigate using the Drives and Directories lists so that the Bellwether Garden Supply name appears on the left. Highlight the name and click OK. From the menu bar select "File" again and then "Select Files...". You can select which particular parts of the Peachtree database will be refreshed from this screen. For the moment just leave everything selected and click "OK". From the menu bar select "File" again and then "Refresh". You should see activity at the lower left status bar, showing refresh of all the files and a pop-up progress bar indicating the percentage of records read for each kind of data. This process should take approximately one minute, depending on the speed of your system. 7. You should now be able to see the refreshed data. You can try the various forms and reports available from the menu bar. If you select "Data" from the menu bar, then "Stop", you will be able to examine the data in the Access tables that has been loaded from the Peachtree database. 8. The PawCom Demo is fully functional, but only with the BCS data. You will be able to change data, add data, and write VB code to create scenarios particular to your needs. Network Considerations ====================== Please note: The PawCom Demo must be installed on the client, but the Peachtree BCS company can be on the server. If this is the case, you should make a copy of the BCS data on your client first (at c:\peachw) and verify everything is working ok before trying to access the data across the network. To access data across the network you first need to map a drive letter to the location of your data on the server. Then you need to go to the "Open Company" screen in PawCom and add a new company entry with the network path.
